Standard shipping: packages and suitcases

Through Global Shipping & Freight USA, you can order courier services to ship your suitcases and packages. You should know how to properly prepare each package to ensure strength and stability during transit.

Along with its journey, a shipment will be loaded and reloaded multiple times. This is the reason why you will need to pack it appropriately to sustain both its mechanical sorting and manual handling.

Global Shipping & Freight USA doesn't currently provide packaging for shipments, but we do offer advice on how to make items fit-for-travel on our site.

Packages

If you're sending a package, a strong and sturdy cardboard box should be used. Make sure the box has no holes, tears or dents to ensure strength and stability.

Finding the right cardboard box

You can find cardboard boxes easily at any supermarket, stationary store or local post office. New boxes are recommended, but if you reuse an old box - make sure it is sturdy enough, with no holes, tears or dents. Depending on the type of items placed inside, consider using corrugated and moisture-resistant cardboard box with a double-wall.

Packaging materials for extra protection

It's not mandatory, but extra packaging gives extra protection.

  • Padding – you could place padding inside the box in a way that keeps the objects from moving inside when it's being transported.
  • Peanuts, foam, polystyrene, paper, newspaper and/or bubble wrap can be suitable packing materials.

Items should be wrapped individually to prevent them from damaging any other items in the package. We'd recommend at least 2 inches (5 cm) of padding inside your box.

Sealing

Once all the items are placed inside, the box should be properly closed and all sides sealed. Use enough duct tape and seal all sides of the box. Apply at least three strips of tape evenly and cover all flaps and seams on the top and the bottom. Use strapping for the heavier boxes.

Labelling

Remember to remove any old labels. Stick the label on a flat surface on the top of the box, so that the barcode can be scanned easily. In some cases, the courier driver will bring the label himself and stick it to the package.

For pick-ups in Sweden or Spain, labels should be printed and stuck on a flat surface so they're clearly readable.

Suitcases

Suitcases must be fully zipped up without any irregular or sharp edges. Use the space inside in a way that the contents are prevented from moving around during transit.

The suitcase should be wrapped thoroughly in stretch foil, including the wheels and handles.

Again, you can use bubble wrap, foam pad, packing paper or peanuts for internal cushioning. All empty spaces should be filled. Consider wrapping the items individually to prevent them from moving inside and damaging other items.

Standard dimensions and weight

Knowing the exact dimensions of your package/suitcase before placing the order is required for calculating the shipping prices. Before the pickup is done, make sure the dimensions of your package or suitcase are exactly the same as written on the order form.

If there are any doubts about the measurements of your package or suitcase, use our shipment size checker.

Non-standard dimensions and weight

If your package/suitcase is bigger or heavier than the standard dimensions and weight, we'll prepare an individual offer for you. After filling in the individual offer form with all the details of your package and your personal details, we will send you an e-mail with a competitive price offer. This offer can then be accepted or declined by you.

The courier drivers will do their best to handle your shipment with care. However, in cases when a package or suitcase is bulky or awkward, you may be asked to assist the courier driver during pick-up. In order to ease the pick-up process, please be ready to help them if needed.
